The Melbourne Immigration Museum has recently launched an exhibition called ‘From Robe to Chinese Fortune’ that explains the history of Chinese immigration in Australia dating back to the gold rushes in Victoria and New South Wales in 18 and showcasing the legacies of the early Chinese immigrants.

The 2016 ABS Census reveals that approximately 645,886 people or about 2.76% of Australia’s population identified as being born in Chinese Asia (China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), making China one of the largest sources of immigrants in Australia. Chinese culture has been an integral component of multicultural society of Australia and we highly recommend a visit to this exhibition which will be on until March next year.
