Project description

Objectives

The project aimed to ensure that ADC’s communications were both effective and culturally appropriate for CALD communities. It sought to:

  • Evaluate how well current materials conveyed key messages to CALD communities

  • Gather insights on perceptions and knowledge of abuse

  • Recommend improvements to content design, format and language.

What Cultural Perspectives delivered

  • Six community consultations with language-specific representatives from Arabic, Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Spanish and Hindi-speaking communities

  • One comprehensive insights report summarising findings from the consultations

  • Recommendations to support the revision and enhancement of ADC’s educational and promotional materials.

Key activities

  • Designed and delivered six culturally-sensitive community consultations

  • Engaged a diverse cohort of CALD community members and leaders

  • Captured qualitative feedback on current communication materials

  • Assessed cultural appropriateness, language accessibility and delivery channels

  • Documented specific preferences for content format and community engagement practices.

Key outcomes

  • Culturally-appropriate language - Participants identified the need for more sensitive and contextually relevant language when addressing the topic of abuse

  • Outreach recommendations - Suggestions included better localised engagement and leveraging trusted community networks

  • Format preferences - CALD communities expressed a preference for physical, tangible materials (such as flyers, posters and booklets) over digital formats

  • Advertising to CALD audiences - The insights report advised ADC to adopt targeted, community-specific advertising strategies to increase visibility and trust.

This consultation process enabled the ADC to better align its communications with the values, preferences and languages of priority CALD groups, ensuring the integrity and reach of its critical messaging on elder and disability abuse.
