Migrant Small business factsheet in language

Objective

CGU developed the Migrant Small Business Report to shine a light on the significant contribution migrants have made in Australia. Cultural Perspectives worked with the team at CGU to provide comprehensive demographic analysis and language advice as well as translation services for the professional translation of the report highlights.

Approach

Cultural Perspectives conducted an analysis of 2016 Australian Bureau of Statistics Census of Population and Housing data to determine the communities with the largest representation of small business owners and the most need for in-language resources.

The statistical analysis was supplemented by data generated from desktop research into reports, and any other available information has created a robust picture of the small business demographic landscape. This research and analysis lead to the recommendation of three priority communities: Mandarin, Arabic, and Vietnamese.

The highlights factsheet was then translated into the three languages through our rigorous and quality translations process including translation and independent second checking by NAATI Certified translators.

Results

This project culminated in the development of three pieces of in-language material that speak to the people and communities at the heart of the report: the individuals and families who have made Australia home. Together with the in-language factsheets, the report has attracted wide media attention and initiated many meaningful conversations in the public, enabling a wider reach to CGU clients.
