Australian Federal Elections | 2022 and 2025 Federal Election Campaigns

Katrina Gao played a central leadership role in the Australian Electoral Commission’s multicultural communications campaigns for both the 2022 and 2025 Federal Elections - two of the most complex and large-scale public information campaigns.

In the 2025 campaign, Katrina led the development of Cultural Perspectives’ multicultural communications strategy and delivery. She designed a tailored strategy for engaging over 30 multicultural communities, ensuring messaging was accessible, culturally appropriate and aligned with the AEC’s regulatory and brand guidelines.

Katrina managed the end-to-end advertising production across TV, radio, digital, print, social media and out-of-home platforms. Her responsibilities included briefing creative and production teams, collaborating with the creative agency and media agency and reviewing translated assets.

She also served as the main client liaison, navigating approvals, schedules and stakeholder feedback across AEC teams, the creative agency and the media agency. Her ability to manage complex logistics and competing priorities ensured that all campaign components were delivered seamlessly, on time and within budget.

ACCC | Multicultural Consumer Rights Campaign

Katrina led the multicultural communications component of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) national campaign to raise awareness of scams among multicultural communities and adopt three simple steps to protect themselves and their communities from scams.

Katrina brought strong capability in developing and executing multi-channel strategies, applying a culturally tailored and data-driven approach. Leveraging her expertise in audience insights and demographic analysis, she developed a multi-layered strategy that ensured communication was inclusive, targeted and impactful for multicultural communities.

Operating within a village model, Katrina worked collaboratively with the ACCC, creative agency, media agency and other village partners. She acted as a key cultural advisor, ensuring the creative approach, messaging and execution were inclusive, respectful and aligned with community insights.

Her project management ensured smooth delivery. The campaign was praised for its strong cultural resonance and effectiveness, with community feedback highlighting increased awareness and confidence in recognising and avoiding scams.
