Indian community living in Australia ‘trebled’ in past decade

Indian migrants now make up 1.8 per cent of Australia’s population, which is the fourth-largest migrant group in the country. There is also a considerable student population, with cities like Melbourne appealing for international students due to their leading educational institutions.

According to the most recent data by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, India has become the largest source of migrants for the year ending 2015-16, with 40,145 arrivals. This is up 18 per cent from the year ending 2014-15.
